Royal Commission progress reports
Under the Inspector-General of Aged Care Act 2023, we must prepare 2 progress reports, which must:
- describe how the Australian Government has implemented the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety’s recommendations
- be completed by 1 June 2024 and 2025.
These reports are distinct from the more major reviews of the Royal Commission’s implementation, which are due in the years that follow.
2025 progress report
We provided the 2025 progress report to the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors by 1 June 2025, as required under the Inspector-General of Aged Care Act 2023.
The legislation requires the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors to table our report in Parliament within 15 sitting days of receiving it.
We will publish the report on our website once it has been tabled.
2024 progress report
The 2024 progress report builds on the 2023 progress report prepared by the Interim Inspector-General.
Reporting on the Aged Care system beyond the Royal Commission
The focus of more general reporting by the Inspector General will specifically focus on issues deemed most material in effecting meaningful, transformational change of the aged care system. That is, the issues of greatest weight in achieving the Royal Commission’s vision, now embodied by the objects of the Aged Care Act 2024.

Consultation
To inform the 2024 progress report, we consulted widely. We spoke to key stakeholders in the aged care system, including consumer and provider representatives.
We also spoke to people with lived experience of aged care, and with a range of providers.
We sought information from relevant government agencies and met with their subject-matter experts and senior officers.
We also invited submissions from:
- people currently using or wanting to access aged care, their families, friends, carers, and advocates
- care providers
- consumer groups
- peak bodies
- academics
- unions and workforce representatives
- government agencies
- education providers
- anyone else with an interest in the aged care system.
Review reports
We publish review reports following an investigation into a systemic issue. They present:
- the key findings of the review
- a summary of the evidence on which those findings are based
- recommendations, which the head of the reviewed government body must formally respond to.
These reports and responses are published on our website and tabled in Parliament.
Special reports
We produce reports on other topics, such as:
- the performance of other Australian Government and Australian Government-funded bodies
- the health of aged care data
- other matters relating to the aged care system.
Corporate reports
Corporate reports include our annual reports and corporate plans.
